2018, a year's journey

So, 2018 manifested itself as a time of transformation and travel for me. I left my home studio of 10 years in Avondale Estates Bedsitter studios (RIP) to start something new in Minneapolis, MN. I'm lucky I got to make anything at all this year, let alone nine releases (and an appearance on the Knifeplay compilation). At the end of the summer, I made it out to Oregon for the first time, it was about as amazing as I had hoped it would be.

Persistentmidnight compilation "My Sound as Sculpture"
Warning Light "Left Behind the Range"
Sareth Den "Follower Year"
Paralysis Image "False Pink"
RE-MAINDR "Chillsmoker Streetlamps" beat tape
Distant Hymns "Yama EP"
Lake Lander "Past Distant Horizons"
Desolate Moon Phases "As the Dark Empire Burns Around Them"
Stormmask LTD compilation "I am alone, but so are you."

Left Behind the Range collection

PM050: Warning Light "Left Behind the Range" I've put up this collection of Warning Light stuff from the 2014-2018 era, my favorite mixes/dubs/cuts that didn't end up on XXXI, Oftenchance, Inland Empires Disregard the Sea, and At the End of the Road. This era of experimenting with rhythm, repetition, sampling and different arrangements marked a time of a lot of change for me as a musician and a producer. These tracks were recorded at Bedsitter Studios in Avondale Estates, and with my current move it makes it the last WL release I recorded there. I'll always look back fondly at my studio time there, I made a LOT of records there. Thanks to everyone who helped make it possible, I won't soon forget any of it.

At the End of the Road announcement

My next album will be At the End of the Road,
coming out 8.27.17 on Stickfigure Recordings on CD and digital.

This was a pretty epic project by any standard (PM recorded/mastered/designed album art all in-house), but this album feels like a beautifully mad science experiment that is actually going to see the light of day... and not all the experiments do. This record is full of collaborators and a dense amount of field recordings/tape looping experiments, but still offers some techno-leaning beatwork and uptempo sample manipulation. At the End of the Road started as an attempt to look back on my ten years of DIY record making and to synthesize it all into one experience (that's probably an impossible task). It ended up with a beautiful inner life of its own... a reminder that at the end of every road, there is another path.

Small Town Synthetics album

Small Town Synthetics is the new album by my other band Snowbride. Rachel and I produced these songs over the course of a couple years, it's the end of our "Southern Quadrilogy." These tracks were recorded at an old lake cabin in North Georgia over the course of several years, and they are the last things we recorded in this style. Originally, we wanted to do a zine project to come with the album but that got shelved, there was a lot that went into finishing these tracks. Maybe more than I bargained for. Anyhow, I'm quite proud of this album, it's really spacey while still having some pretty groovin' beats, which was kind of the core of this era of the band. It's been fun, but our "Southern" era is over. Neither Rachel nor I know what's next for Snowbride, I suppose only time will tell.

Inland Empires Disregard the Sea

Inland Empires Disregard the Sea is finally here, pressed on a limited number of compact discs from Stickfigure Recordings. Nine songs in just shy of an hour, the album also features a couple tracks I recorded with synthwork from Rachel M from Snowbride.

I'm excited to say this is my most eclectic and complex work to date, following in a lineage of the electronic loop concepts from Oftenchance and XXXI. The past couple years have been a time of tremendous change in the life of this project and I hope to always maintain an adventurous spirit with my recordings under this name. Cheers to my friends and allies who helped me along the long, twisty path of creation, I appreciate you all.

This has been a Persistentmidnight Production.

Oftenchance is the product of a year of solid recording/experimenting. As an album, I'm tremendously proud of the content and layout, so I hope you enjoy. I think this one is fairly eclectic, maybe a little sentimental, but definitely epic. The CD can be purchased HERE on Discogs. Special thanks to Stickfigure Records and Matt Weiner on this one.

Update: May 2013

After taking a couple months off, I've finally come back to Warning Light writing.

I've finished recording on two full length albums, one that was in the works for the last two years, one that is more immediate. The long gestating album is called The Lost Patterns, and I'm very happy with it. For those that have heard the other records I've made, this will be something different.

This is from the more immediate album, called Beyond, which I might self release in the next few weeks:

Half Futures

Half Futures, my new record will be out 9/4! It's coming!!!!!

Monday, May 21, 2012

Well, the times were bound to change. Recently, after lots of sound experimentation, I've decided to divide things off a bit. Warning Light is becoming more focused, and my side projects will be a little more "out there." My next Warning Light album is still tenatively scheduled for the fall, and I think the new sounds will be a pleasant surprise to anyone who has followed the different albums over the years. But until then, you can check out: 1) My split C30 with Repeated Viewing from Glasgow. It will be out in an ever-so-limited-edition of 100 copies on green cassettes. 2) I contributed to a drone album by Seeing the Sights, you can check that out/download it free in the next week or so at: seeingthesights.bandcamp.com 3) The quiet, industrial-noise of downers. "medicated loathing" and the upcoming "Plague Rhythms", at: downers.bandcamp.com So check out all that stuff...
